Bhajans of Maa Saraswati were sung by the students of the school. Pooja of Maa Saraswati was performed by all the staff of the school. After that, the students enjoyed kite flying in the school grounds. On this occasion, the Principal Mrs. Anjana Rani while addressing the students said that Basant in Sanskrit literally means Spring. It is called Basant Panchami because it is celebrated on the fifth day of Magha which usually falls in the month of February. It is written in the Vedas that it is the day of Goddess Saraswati. On this day goddess Saraswati is worshiped. To show happiness, new clothes are worn and kites are flown and music is enjoyed. In ancient India, the whole year was divided into six seasons. Spring was the most desirable season of the people. When spring came to the flowers, mustard blossoms would shine in the fields, barley and wheat would sprout, mangoes would blossom and colorful butterflies would fly everywhere. The first spring fair was held in Amritsar in 1599 when Sri Guru Hargobind Ji was brought from Wadali to Amritsar. On this day, people wear yellow clothes, eat sweets and display yellow flowers in their homes. Spring is considered the king of all seasons. The historical significance of this day is that Maharaja Ranjit Singh gave 2000 rupees for langar on this day at Darbar Sahib, Amritsar Sahib in 1825 AD. At the Lahore court of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, the spring fair used to last for 10 days and all the soldiers wore yellow clothes and displayed their jewels.
