Blooming Buds School, a renowned academic institution of Moga city organised special assembly under the leadership of Group Chairman Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Saini and Chairperson Mrs. Kamal Saini, to aware the students about social media and cyber crime. The ever-increasing prevalence of social media and its good and bad effects were discussed in detail. Charts and articles related to this were presented by the students. While sharing the information, the students said that now a day’s social media has emerged as a very simple and effective means of sharing any kind of information. Social media has developed rapidly in the last very short period of time. Today’s popular social websites such as Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, YouTube, Sharechat, Snapchat, Twitter, etc. are becoming more and more popular. Social media has many benefits like social media can be a great source of information. With the help of social media, we can get detailed information about each and every thing happening around us. Social media increases education. We get all kinds of information, for example- regarding the news of the country and abroad, about new technology right at home. Social media is responsible for social progress. It is also a good means of entertainment. During the prolonged lockdown, students learnt from home through social media. Social media has become a big market for businessmen. They are using these platforms for marketing. Due to social media, the whole world has been reduced to our hands through mobile phones. Like every coin has two faces, so does any scientific research has bad impacts and effects. Social media is a major cause of wastage of money and time. Using social media through computer, mobile for a long time weakens our eyesight. Children sit in one place all day and waste time resulting in great reduction in their physical activities. Social media is also increasing corruption and cyber crime. During this school Principal Dr. Hamiliya Rani told the students that cases of cheating people are increasing now a day’s through the misuse of social media. She further said that if we do not want to fall prey to any kind of cyber fraud then we need to be vigilant. Mr. Rahul Chhabra (CEO BBS GROUP), told the students that we should not share our PIN number, account number or OTP with anyone. He further said that if you are a victim of any kind of cyber fraud or any amount is deducted from the bank account without your consent then you should immediately report it on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal number 1930 issued by the Government of India. Schools often share information like this to make students aware so that they or their parents don’t become victims of cyber crime.
