Blooming Buds School, a renowned educational institution of Moga city, celebrated ‘Police Commemoration Day’ under the able leadership of Group Chairman Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Saini and Chairperson Madam Kamal Saini. Students shared information about this day through charts and articles. They said that ‘ Police Commemoration Day’ is celebrated on October 21 every year. It is celebrated to salute the spirit of the police forces, their families and the martyred police forces who lost their lives fighting for the country. It is celebrated to motivate and honor the police personnel who perform their duties with utmost dedication. Sharing information about the history of this day, school principal Dr. Hamiliya Rani said that on October 21, 1959, 10 Indian CRPF personnel were killed in an attack by Chinese troops in the Hot Springs area near Ladakh following an argument between soldiers. The incident started on October 20, 1959, when the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was patrolling the border between India and Tibet. Three units of the 3rd Battalion of the CRPF were sent on a separate patrol to a place known as Hot Springs. However, one of the three contingents did not return. On 21 October, a new batch of D.C.I.O. under the leadership of Karam Singh, was mobilized to search for the missing. When they approached a hill in Ladakh, the Chinese army opened fire on the Indian soldiers. Seven Indian police officers were captured by the Chinese and ten of them were killed in the line of duty. As a result of a resolution passed in January 1960 at the Annual Conference of Inspector Generals of Police of the States and Union Territories, 21 October is now recognized as Police Memorial Day or Martyrs’ Day. A special parade is held at the Police Memorial in Chanakyapuri, Delhi every year since 2012 on 21 October. He added that on the occasion of Police Commemoration Day, we sincerely salute the hardworking, brave and committed police personnel for their services. She added that our flag does not fly because the wind blows it, it flies with the last breath of every soldier who dies defending it. All staff and students were present on this occasion.
